Knuckleheads is a family-friendly boxing gym welcoming members of all fitness and boxing levels. When you take a class at our South Loop studio, you’ll have the guidance of professional fighters to help you safely enjoy a full-body workout. What to Know Before Your First Class

  • Come early! We recommend showing up to your first class at least 20 minutes early. During this time, coaches can give you a quick tour of the gym, help you with hand wraps and gloves, and teach you the boxing basics you’ll need for class. 
  • You’ll need boxing gloves and wraps. You are welcome to bring your own pair. We recommend 16oz or 14oz gloves for class (no MMA gloves). If you don’t have any, we have some for rent or purchase. 
  • Wear your standard workout clothes. Aside from gloves and hand wraps, you won’t need any special clothing or gear for class. Wear something comfortable that you can move in. You may wear boxing shoes, but normal gym shoes are fine, too. 
  • It’s okay if you’ve never boxed before. Our coaches will help wrap your hands, teach you how to find your stance, and show you how to safely and effectively throw punches. 

What to Expect In Class

  • You’ll start with a warm-up. All classes will start with a warm-up. Warm-ups will vary among coaches but typically include jump roping and dynamic stretches.
  • You’ll work on the heavy bags. Most of our boxing classes consist of heavy bag work. The coaches will demonstrate combos for you to work during each round. Rounds can vary from 3 to 5 minutes, depending on what your coach has planned for the session. 
  • You’ll get a full-body workout. Between rounds, you’ll use your active rest to perform body-weight workouts such as sit-ups, squats, lunges, and push-ups.
